Oh Seung-hwan’s Journey: From Baseball Legend to Startup Mentor at Daegu University

[Herald Economy (Gyeongsan)=Kim Byung-jin] Daegu University announced on May 11 that it has appointed former Samsung Lions closer Oh Seung-hwan, widely known as the \”Stone Buddha,\” as a special-appointed professor in its Entrepreneurship Support Group.
Oh compiled 549 saves over the course of his career across the KBO, Japan’s NPB and Major League Baseball.
The university said the move is intended to bring Oh’s competitive drive, self-discipline, global experience and proven crisis-management skills into its youth entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial-education programs.
Oh will take part in a range of initiatives with Daegu University’s Entrepreneurship Support Group, including guest lectures on entrepreneurship and sports leadership and programs linked to the university’s Entrepreneurship-Focused University initiative and the RISE project.
At the appointment ceremony, Oh said he wants to share with students the patience he developed while facing countless crises on the mound and the responsibility of always doing his best.
Lee Jae-hyun, head of Daegu University’s Entrepreneurship Support Group, said he expects Oh to be a role model for students, showing the drive, perseverance and accountability needed not just for sports but for entrepreneurship as well.
