[MyDaily = Gocheok, Reporter Kim Jin-seong] Kim Sang-su delivered hits in seven consecutive plate appearances.

KT Wiz infielder Kim Sang-su (36) put together a seven-plate-appearance hit streak across the May 9–10 series against the Kiwoom Heroes at Gocheok. He couldn’t extend it after popping out to right in a key spot on May 10. On May 9 he started at second base and batted sixth, going 5-for-6 with an RBI; on May 10 he again started at second and hit 3-for-4.

In the May 9 game, Kim started with an opposite-field single in the second, then flew out to left in the third. He followed with center hits in the fifth, seventh and ninth innings — a sign he was seeing the ball well, since hard contact up the middle usually requires precise timing. He added a left-field single in the 11th, finishing the night with four straight hits.

That 5-for-6 performance bumped his season average from .262 to .294. He picked up the streak in the May 10 matchup against Kiwoom rookie flamethrower Park Joon-hyun. In the second inning, with one out and no runners, a 1–2 count slider that dipped into the zone became a line drive to center for a single.

In the fourth, with one out and a runner on first, a 1–1 pitch — a 155 km/h four-seam that rode a little high — turned into another single to center, marking his sixth straight plate appearance with a hit. In the sixth, with two outs and runners on first and third, he slapped a 148 km/h two-seam on the inner half for an RBI single to right, putting KT ahead and setting up the possibility of a game-changing night. That made it seven consecutive plate appearances with hits.

In the top of the ninth, with KT up 1–0 and a runner on first with no outs, Kiwoom summoned closer Kanakubo Yuto to face Kim. KT needed a big swing; manager Lee Kang-cheol passed on the sacrifice and gave Kim the green light to swing away. With a 2–1 count, Kim chased a 147 km/h four-seam on the outside and pulled it, but it carried to right field for an out — ending the streak at seven plate appearances. KT failed to score in the top of the ninth and lost in the bottom of the ninth when An Chi-hong launched a walk-off grand slam.

For context, the KBO record for consecutive plate appearances with a hit is 10, set by Lee Byung-kyu of the LG Twins from July 3–10, 2013. The next-best streak is nine, by Kim Min-jae of SK Wyverns from September 16–19, 2004.

2025년

Eight consecutive plate-appearance hit streaks have been recorded nine times by players including Jang Hyo-jo, Lee Man-soo, Kim Ki-tae, Jang Sung-ho (twice), Oh Jae-won, Park Han-yi, Na Sung-bum and Koo Ja-wook. If Kim had delivered in the ninth, he would have joined that list. Still, he finished 8-for-10 across the two games and raised his season average to .310, moving up to 16th in the KBO batting race.
