[MyDaily = Reporter Shim Jae-hee] ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The San Francisco Giants have slid into a five-game losing streak, and outfielder Lee Jung-hoo, 28, hasn’t been able to spark a turnaround since returning to the leadoff spot.
The Giants fell 1-5 on May 3 at Tropicana Field against the Tampa Bay Rays. After allowing a run in the bottom of the fourth, San Francisco gave up three more in the fifth to fall behind 0-4. They scraped across a run in the sixth but surrendered an insurance run in the eighth and couldn’t mount a comeback. It was their second straight loss following a 0-3 defeat the previous day.
The skid was amplified by a sweep at Philadelphia from April 29 to May 1. The Giants were shut out 0-7 on April 29 and then suffered back-to-back walk-off losses in the May 1 doubleheader. Dropping the first two games of the Tampa Bay series pushed them to five straight defeats.
◆ San Francisco — last 5 games
– April 29 at Philadelphia (road) L 0-7
– May 1 at Philadelphia (road) L 2-3
– May 1 at Philadelphia (road) L 5-6
– May 2 at Tampa Bay (road) L 0-3
– May 3 at Tampa Bay (road) L 1-5

With the loss, San Francisco dropped to 13-20 (.394) and remains last in the National League West, a half-game behind fourth-place Colorado (14-20, .412). The NL West has been bumpy across the board: the Los Angeles Dodgers (20-13, .606) and San Diego Padres (19-13, .594) are each mired in four-game losing streaks, while Arizona (16-16, .500) and Colorado have both lost three straight.
Lee started in right field and returned to the leadoff spot after four days but went 0-for-4 with a strikeout. A well-struck ball was robbed by a standout defensive play, and fortune did not go his way. He is hitting .288 (34-for-118) with 2 home runs, 11 RBIs, a .333 on-base percentage, a .424 slugging percentage and a .757 OPS on the season.
