[Herald Economy (Gyeongsan) = Reporter Kim Byung-jin] Yeungnam University announced on May 2 that its wrestling team clinched the university team title at the 4th Herald Economy–Korea Herald National Wrestling Tournament, completing a three-peat.
The tournament ran May 17–22 at the Hapcheon Multipurpose Gymnasium in Hapcheon, South Gyeongsang. Yeungnam’s squad also picked up three golds, one silver and three bronzes in individual competition.
Senior physical education major Yun Ju-young, returning from a long-term injury, earned tournament MVP honors and was a driving force behind the team’s success.
“Even while dealing with a long-term injury, I stayed focused on rehab,” Yun said. “I wouldn’t have won without the coach and teammates who kept me motivated.”
Coach Kim Ik-hee was named Coach of the Year in recognition of his leadership.
“Our players set goals and gave everything they had, which produced these strong results,” Kim said. “We’ll concentrate on recovery work and basic conditioning to boost performance and help the athletes build confidence and clear objectives moving forward.”
