Nicknamed the “charge leader,” Hwang Yu-min made her mark on the domestic circuit as a genuine long hitter. As a rookie in 2023 she ranked second in driving distance, moved up to fourth in 2024, and recorded sixth in 2025 before heading to the U.S., confirming her length off the tee.
This season’s LPGA rookie, Hwang sits 64th on the LPGA Tour in driving distance, averaging 267.42 yards. The rookie class is unusually loaded with big hitters—18 rookies currently outdrive her.
Four rookies rank inside the top 10 for driving distance. Lily Smith (USA) leads the category at 297.00 yards, Yana Wilson (USA) is sixth at 283.10 yards, Helen Brimm (Germany) is eighth at 281.70 yards, and Raini Fry (USA) sits tenth at 281.46 yards.
The list continues with Supitchaya Vinichaitam (Thailand) 13th (280.78 yards), Emma McMiler (USA) 14th (280.17 yards), Nastassia Nadawood (France) 17th (279.02 yards), Camille Boyd (USA) 20th (277.50 yards), Erica Shepherd (USA) 21st (277.00 yards), Ria John (Canada) 28th (275.50 yards), and Hara Erica (Japan) 32nd (274.92 yards).
The rookie ranked 12th in driving distance is Lee Dong-eun, who led the KLPGA in long hitting last year. Lee averages 274.75 yards and sits 33rd on the LPGA in driving distance. Six rookies are ranked between Lee and Hwang. Mimi Rose (England), second in the rookie standings with 134 points, is 61st in driving distance (267.68 yards), two spots ahead of Hwang.
But scoring doesn’t always follow distance. Unlike her domestic approach, Hwang has pulled back from all-out attacks, clearly separating when to be aggressive and when to play cautiously. She says she doesn’t feel the need to chase distance every time. That measured strategy is paying off: she leads the rookie standings with 245 points. The “charge leader” is increasingly the course strategist.
