Lee Jung-hoo’s bat has come alive. His hitting has noticeably improved, and this time he helped lead the Giants to a win with his extra-base power, extending his hot streak.
Lee, playing right field and batting sixth for the San Francisco Giants in the home game against the Miami Marlins, went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Both hits were doubles, and he later scored after reaching base, providing an early offensive spark.
From his first plate appearance, he showed sharp contact. He squared up a fastball and ripped a double past the right fielder, a clear display of extra-base power that put pressure on the Marlins’ battery.
He kept it going in his second at-bat, turning a high fastball into a deep double to left-center. That was notable because he’d previously struggled with pitches up in the zone; this swing showed timing and technique rather than brute force.
He also displayed a keen eye, drawing a walk later and scoring on a subsequent RBI. In his final at-bat, a well-struck ball was hit right at a fielder for an out, but overall it was his most consistent game of the season.
His recent stretch has been even more impressive. After a brutal start to the season, he’s rebounded and consistently produced hits in recent games. He posted multi-hit games in back-to-back contests, and his batting average has climbed into the .280s. Showing both power and precision, he’s beginning to look like a middle-of-the-order bat.
The Giants snapped a losing streak behind Lee’s performance. With his bat back, better contact quality and a steady approach at the plate, his upward trend looks likely to continue in the near term.
