Lee Sang-yeop, 32, heads into the weekend looking for his second career win, buoyed by his girlfriend who is also serving as his caddie.
On the 17th, at the Old Course (par 72) of La Vie en Belle Golf & Resort in Chuncheon, Gangwon, Lee fired a 6-under 66 in the second round of the 2026 KPGA Tour’s 21st DB Insurance Promy Open.
After shooting 5-under in round one, Lee sits second at 11-under 133 through 36 holes, one shot behind leader Kwon Seong-yeol (‑12).
He carried his momentum into round two. Aside from a lone bogey at the 13th hole, Lee avoided trouble and put himself in position to challenge for the title starting in the third round.
After his round, Lee said, “I played comfortably, like I did yesterday. My shots went where I wanted and the strategy worked. I played all 18 holes without forcing anything.”
Lee’s iron play has been sharp this week. “When I attack with irons, I usually favor the wider side of the green or aim for an uphill slope. That plan came together well,” he explained.
On day one at the par-5 16th, Lee’s second shot found a bunker and he nearly paid for it, but he saved a bogey and used the momentum to climb the leaderboard. In round two, safer approaches set up a birdie.
“I didn’t dwell on yesterday’s bogey,” Lee said. “I tend to forget things after a day. I think my mental game is strong.”
Now that he’s in contention, Lee added, “I don’t want to repress the pressure to win — I see it as another challenge. I’ll try to stay as relaxed as I have the last two days.”
Lee also thanked his girlfriend, who has been his caddie this season, for the strong start. “We’re planning to get married next year. She’s been caddying for me this year and keeps me comfortable on the course. I think my mentality has improved because of her,” he said. When asked if a victory would serve as a wedding present, he smiled and added, “That would be the perfect proposal.”
