[Sports Today reporter Kang Tae-gu] The Samsung Lions topped the NC Dinos to clinch a winning series.
Samsung defeated NC 5-4 on April 11 at Daegu Samsung Lions Park in a 2026 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League matchup.
The victory moved Samsung to 7-1-4, lifting them into third place. NC, now on a five-game losing streak, fell to 6-6 and are tied with the Hanwha Eagles for fifth.
Samsung starter Jack Oruklin struggled, lasting three innings while allowing three hits, three strikeouts, seven walks and four runs, but he departed without a decision.
Offensively, Ryu Ji-hyeok collected multiple hits and helped carry the offense.
NC starter Curtis Taylor took the loss, giving up five hits and five runs over five innings with three strikeouts and six walks.
NC struck first. In the bottom of the first, walks to Park Min-woo and Park Gun-woo set up a 1-out, first-and-second situation. Davidson’s fly to center moved the runners to first and third, and on Lee Woo-sung’s at-bat a double steal allowed Park Min-woo to score the game’s first run.
Samsung answered with a big second inning. After Ryu Ji-hyeok doubled and then stole a base to put a runner at third with one out, Jeon Byung-woo delivered an RBI single to tie the game.
With one out and a runner at first, Park Se-hyuk and Yang Woo-hyun drew consecutive walks to load the bases. Park Seung-gyu was hit by a pitch to bring in a run, then Kim Ji-chan ripped a two-run double, and Choi Hyung-woo followed with an RBI groundout to second to quickly put Samsung up 5-1.
NC answered immediately. In the top of the third, Park Gun-woo doubled, Davidson was hit by a pitch and Seo Ho-cheol walked to create a two-out, bases-loaded chance. Kim Hwi-jip was hit by a pitch to cut the lead, and Kim Hyung-jun’s two-run double brought NC within 5-4.
After that, the game settled into a pitchers’ duel.
Starting in the fourth, Samsung turned to the bullpen with Baek Jeong-hyun, followed by Bae Chan-seung, Miyaji and Lee Seung-hyun. Each reliever allowed one hit, but all delivered scoreless, steady outings.
Samsung missed a chance to put the game away in the bottom of the eighth. Jeon Byung-woo reached on a hit-by-pitch, Kang Min-ho moved him over with a productive out, and a wild pitch by Won Jong-hae left one out with a runner at third.
But Lee Jae-hyun struck out and Park Seung-gyu flew out to left, ending the threat.
Holding the one-run lead, Samsung brought Kim Jae-yoon out for the ninth. He retired the side in order to seal the win.
