[Sports Today reporter Kang Tae-gu] The Samsung Lions beat the KT Wiz 8-6 on April 4 at Suwon KT Wiz Park, extending their winning streak to four games in the 2026 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League.
The win moved Samsung to 4 wins, 1 tie and 2 losses (W–D–L), keeping them in fourth place. KT, now in a losing streak, dropped to 5-2.
Starter Choi Won-tae exited without a decision after five innings, allowing seven hits, striking out eight, issuing four walks and surrendering five runs.
Offensively, veteran catcher Kang Min-ho led the way with a three-hit, four-RBI night (3-for-4), while Lewin Díaz went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs.
KT starter So Hyeong-jun also took a no-decision, lasting six innings and yielding nine hits (including two homers), striking out seven, walking one and allowing six runs.
Samsung struck first. In the top of the first, with two outs and a runner on first after Kim Ji-chan’s single, Díaz waited on So’s second pitch—a 142 km/h cutter—and drove it over the right fielder’s head for a two-run homer.
Samsung added to the lead in the second. With two outs and a runner in scoring position following Ryu Ji-hyuk’s single and Lee Jae-hyun’s move, Kang Min-ho ripped a two-out double to plate a run and make it 3-0.
KT responded quickly and turned the game around in the bottom of the second. After Jang Sung-woo’s single, Kim Sang-su was hit by a pitch, and Oh Yun-seok followed with a single to load the bases with one out. Ryu Hyun-in delivered a two-run single to center, Lee Kang-min added an RBI single, and Kim Hyun-soo capped the rally with a two-run double — a five-run inning that put KT ahead.
Samsung answered in the fourth. Leadoff hitter Choi Hyung-woo crushed So’s 141 km/h cutter over the right-field fence for a solo homer.
The Lions tied it at 5-5 later in the inning when Ryu Ji-hyuk doubled, Lee Hae-seung executed a sacrifice bunt, and Kang Min-ho followed with an RBI single.
Samsung reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth. Ku Ja-wook’s double set the table, and Díaz’s RBI single to center pushed the Lions in front 6-5.
KT showed fight in the seventh. With one out and no runners on, Ahn Hyun-min reacted to reliever Miyaji’s changeup—a 124 km/h curve—and sent it past the left fielder for a game-tying solo homer.
But Samsung maintained control down the stretch. In the top of the eighth, Ryu Ji-hyuk’s single and Kim Young-woong’s double produced a one-out, runners on second and third, and Kang Min-ho ripped a two-run single to retake the lead.
Samsung turned to Choi Ji-gwang to close out the ninth. He worked a scoreless frame to preserve the lead and secure the victory.
