Manchester United is eyeing Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali as a potential signing.
European transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported on May 10th that Man United highly values Tonali, though they are considering several midfield options.
Tonali, an Italian midfielder, excels as a defensive midfielder with exceptional build-up play. His skills have earned him comparisons to Andrea Pirlo, and he’s also known for his strong defensive contributions.
A product of Brescia Calcio’s youth academy, Tonali led the team to Serie A promotion in the 2018-19 season. After joining AC Milan in 2020-21, he helped secure a Serie A title in his second season, cementing his status as one of Italy’s top midfielders.

Tonali moved to Newcastle in the summer of 2023 for £55 million (approximately 110 billion KRW (74.8 million USD)). However, his 2023-24 season was cut short by a 10-month suspension due to illegal betting allegations.
Since returning from suspension, Tonali has quickly re-established himself as a key player. Last season, he appeared in 45 matches, scoring 6 goals and providing 3 assists. This season, he’s already played 37 games and contributed 4 assists.
His impressive performances have attracted interest from top clubs. Romano suggests Tonali may seek a new challenge this summer, with Juventus, Arsenal, and Manchester United all showing interest.

Manchester United’s interest is particularly noteworthy as they look to overhaul their midfield. With Casemiro’s departure confirmed for this summer, the club is actively seeking replacements. United appears to be making a strong push for Tonali.
The Telegraph reports that Manchester United has placed Tonali at the top of their list for midfield reinforcements. The club sees him as a long-term solution, with an expected transfer fee of around £100 million (approximately 200 billion KRW (136 million USD)).
