Kakao’s labor union has warned it may strike next month, and Kakao CEO Jeong Shin‑ah issued an apology to employees.
On the morning of the 28th, Jeong issued a companywide notice addressing the internal turmoil and anxiety caused by recent labor disputes, according to industry reports.
\”I sincerely apologize for failing to address many concerns and uncertainties more quickly,\” Jeong said.
He added that he recognizes the burden that prolonged negotiations have placed on the company’s employees — internally referred to as the \”crew\” — and said he takes that seriously.
Jeong emphasized that, despite ongoing differences between labor and management, they ultimately must lead the company together. \”Although we have not yet sufficiently narrowed our differences, we are all crew working at Kakao and must move in the same direction,\” he said.
He pledged to redouble efforts to listen more closely to one another, resolve differences through dialogue, and reunify Kakao.
He also raised the possibility of changes to how the company is run.
It is time for the company to establish a more stable governance framework, reset standards with a service-focused perspective, and align on a common direction, he said, signaling potential organizational restructuring.
Kakao’s labor union and management remain at odds over wages and the performance-pay system, and the union has warned it may proceed with a strike next month.
