As concern over a company-wide strike at Samsung Electronics intensified, Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Young-hoon once again urged labor and management to engage in dialogue. In a May 14 social media post titled “Democracy Is Believing in the Power of Dialogue,” Kim wrote, “There is no company without workers, and no union was formed to destroy a company.” He added, “In my experience, nothing is more difficult than negotiating during a strike. If a strike is not the goal in itself, it must be resolved through bargaining.” The post has been interpreted as a call for Samsung Electronics’ union and management to continue talks and seek common ground.
