[FreeZone TV] Yongin Special City Filled with Children’s Laughter… Osan Targets Illegal Riverbank Structures / Reporting: Kim Kyung-hoon Field Reporter: Joo Yeon-rok Edited by Producer Kim Hyun-tae
[Kim Kyung-hoon, opening] May is observed as Family Month. With Labor Day and holidays like Children’s Day and Parents’ Day, sites across southern Gyeonggi Province were busy. We received video of Children’s Day events in Osan and Yongin Special City. Welcome, reporter Joo Yeon-rok.
[Joo Yeon-rok, reporter] Yes. For Children’s Day, families visited venues throughout Yongin Special City.
Osan and Yongin hosted Children’s Day programs, performances, and play areas, creating a festive atmosphere.
Scenes of parents with young children filling public spaces were heartwarming.
[Kim Kyung-hoon] I understand Osan is concentrating administrative efforts on improving residents’ living conditions and safety. Is that correct?
[Joo Yeon-rok] That’s correct. The acting mayor of Osan has personally led an effort to remove illegal structures along rivers and valleys. Authorities have been taking down platforms, tents, and other unauthorized installations that damage river environments or impede public passage.
Acting Mayor Yoon Young-mi visited the sites to inspect the cleanup and instructed relevant departments to maintain oversight and develop measures to prevent recurrence. In April she also conducted inspections of major road projects, signaling an active hands-on approach.
[Kim Kyung-hoon] Some observers describe this as a citizen-centered administration rather than mere enforcement. Do you share that view?
[Joo Yeon-rok] I do. Complaints about illegal riverside and valley structures used to spike every summer. This time, officials are framing the effort as improving living conditions and restoring public order, not simply as removal or warnings.
Notably, the acting mayor visited the sites herself and signaled a firm commitment to a zero-tolerance policy for illegal installations.
[Kim Kyung-hoon] Even during the Children’s Day holiday, cities appeared to set slightly different administrative priorities and directions.
That concludes our Osan neighborhood report. Shall we move on to Pyeongtaek?
