Gyeongju — Energy Economy News reporter Jungmo Son: Gyeongju City announced on April 24 that it conducted training on High Fuel-Price Relief Payments on April 22 in City Hall’s second-floor main conference room. About 40 staff members and team leaders from 22 local administrative offices attended.

The training aimed to strengthen the practical skills of local office staff who will handle applications and payments and to minimize confusion during the program’s initial rollout.

Course instructors reviewed program guidelines, payment criteria, processing steps, the Kona I payment system, and procedures for offline payments, offering a comprehensive overview of field operations.

Using real-world examples, presenters highlighted changes in rules and procedures compared with last year’s consumer recovery coupon distribution and pointed out key considerations for on-site responses to improve participants’ understanding.

During a Q&A session, attendees discussed various scenarios that might arise during intake, reviewed complaint-handling protocols and processing standards, and reinforced their practical response capabilities.

Gyeongju City said it will continue to supply manuals, Q&A documents, and relevant forms after the training so local office staff can perform their duties smoothly.

A city official said, “We are making every effort to ensure relief payments reach citizens who need them quickly and accurately. We will work closely with field staff to minimize inconvenience for residents.”

Daegu — Energy Economy News reporter Jungmo Son: DGIST said on April 24 that it held the community cultural event “Biseul Sakae” at its on-campus Garden of Time on April 23, drawing about 500 local residents.

The event was designed to open a science-and-technology-focused campus to the community and to elevate the area’s cultural offerings.

It took on added significance as a collaborative festival centered on DGIST, with participation from major local public institutions including the Dalseong Cultural Foundation, the National Daegu Science Museum, and the Dalseong Children’s Forest Library.

Attendees enjoyed an outdoor book lounge set up for World Book Day, and experienced a range of cultural activities including performances, interactive booths, and food and beverage areas.

Local leaders, including Dalseong County Mayor Choi Jae-hoon, attended and underscored the value of university–community cultural partnerships.

Sponsored by the Dalseong Cultural Foundation, performances by singer CHEEZE, indie band MONOFLO, and DGIST student clubs added to the spring atmosphere and received strong support from family visitors.

Science and reading activity programs organized by the National Daegu Science Museum and the Dalseong Children’s Forest Library also drew strong participation from children and enriched the event.

DGIST President Lee Geon-woo said, “\”Biseul Sakae\” invites local residents to visit campus, linger comfortably, and enjoy cultural activities. We will continue to expand shared-campus programs through partnerships with local public institutions.”

DGIST plans to develop “Biseul Sakae” into an annual, seasonally themed program—spring, summer, fall, and winter—positioning the campus as a cultural hub that engages with the broader community.

Daegu — Energy Economy News reporter Jungmo Son: The arrhythmia team in the cardiology department at Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital announced on April 24 that it recently performed the country’s first implantation of the AVEIR™ DR dual‑chamber leadless pacemaker.

This milestone follows last year’s successful single‑chamber AVEIR VR implantation—the first outside the capital region and the second nationwide—and represents the first clinical use in the country of a system that coordinates both atrial and ventricular pacing. The achievement has drawn attention from the medical community.

Leadless pacemakers are a next‑generation therapy addressing limitations of traditional devices.

Conventional pacemakers require implanting a generator under the skin below the collarbone and running leads to the heart, which carries risks like lead fracture, infection, thrombus formation, and discomfort from device protrusion.

By contrast, the AVEIR DR uses two capsule‑sized devices directly anchored in the right atrium and right ventricle, eliminating leads and the subcutaneous generator.

Using Abbott’s i2i™ (implant‑to‑implant) wireless communication technology, the two devices communicate to synchronize atrial and ventricular beats precisely, enabling a more natural cardiac rhythm.

Professor Hwang Jong‑min, who led the procedure, said, “We prepared to introduce the dual‑chamber system to offer patients a superior treatment option beyond single‑chamber results. This first domestic implantation validates our clinical experience and technical expertise.”

Hospital Director Kim Jun‑hyung added, “This achievement demonstrates Dongsan Hospital’s leadership in arrhythmia care in Korea. We will continue research and support to deliver patient‑centered care that improves quality of life.”

The hospital’s arrhythmia team (Professors Park Hyung‑seop, Hwang Jong‑min, Jeong Tae‑wan, and Jeong Min‑su) has been designated the nation’s first AVEIR Training & Proctor Center and provides procedural training to clinicians across the country. The team was recently also named a Radiation‑Zero Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) Training Center, underscoring its leading role in arrhythmia treatment.

Daegu — Energy Economy News reporter Jungmo Son: Im Jun‑mo, director of the Daegu‑Gyeongbuk Regional Military Manpower Agency, visited a special school to commend social service agents and hear about their on‑the‑ground concerns.

On April 24, Director Im visited the private special school Daegu Health School, met with Vice Principal Choi Shin‑hye, and encouraged the social service agents who support students with disabilities.

The visit, timed around Disability Day (April 20), recognized the efforts of social service agents working in educational settings and provided an opportunity to directly assess their working conditions and challenges.

The agency also presented awards to exemplary social service agents during the visit.

Kee Tae‑ho, a social service agent honored that day, was recognized for faithfully carrying out individualized support activities—including educational assistance, mobility support, and meal assistance—drawing on his background in special education.

In discussions with school officials, Director Im thanked them for cooperating to ensure stable service conditions for social service agents and urged them to consider expanding demand for these positions so local youth can fulfill military obligations smoothly and transition into society earlier.

In a follow‑up meeting, he listened to agents’ concerns about work conditions, encouraged those dedicated to supporting students with disabilities, and urged them to serve with pride and diligence.

The Daegu‑Gyeongbuk Regional Military Manpower Agency said it will continue visiting service sites to raise leadership attention, boost morale, and improve conditions for social service agents.

Daegu — Energy Economy News reporter Jungmo Son: iM Bank said on April 24 that it operated a resource‑circulation campaign called the “Circular Exchange Station” for Earth Day on April 22 and completed an employee‑driven collection of discarded electrical and electronic equipment.

The Circular Exchange Station is a resource‑circulation initiative that exchanges discarded appliances for new value. It is organized by E‑Circular Governance, a non‑profit public interest corporation authorized by the Ministry of Environment.

iM Bank set up the exchange station in the lobby of its Suseong‑dong headquarters and collected a wide range of items, from small appliances to medium and large household electronics.

The activity is part of iM Bank’s environmental management strategy. In cooperation with E‑Circular Governance, the collected e‑waste will be recycled in an environmentally responsible way, conserving resources and reducing carbon emissions.

Since signing an agreement in 2023—the first domestic financial holding company to do so—with E‑Circular Governance to build an electrical and electronic product resource‑circulation system, iM Financial Group has expanded recycling activities across its affiliates.

As a result, iM Bank increased its collected e‑waste from 4,670 kg in 2023 to 26,740 kg in 2025—an approximately 570% increase.

About 450 employees participated in this event, voluntarily turning in items ranging from mice, keyboards, and cables to large home appliances such as TVs and vacuum cleaners, demonstrating commitment to ESG principles.

The event also featured refreshments and prize giveaways to boost participation.

Bank President Kang Jeong‑hoon said, “This campaign gave employees a hands‑on opportunity to experience the importance of resource circulation. As a financial institution, we will continue to expand ESG activities that fulfill our social responsibilities and create positive environmental and community outcomes.”

Daegu — Energy Economy News reporter Jungmo Son: The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education said it will run the 2026 Multicultural Education Specialist Training (Basic Course) from April 24 to 25 at the Eoul Performance Hall in the Daegu Global Citizenship Education Center, training 54 teachers from early childhood through high school.

The training is designed to deepen teachers’ understanding of multiculturalism and strengthen their capacity to educate a growing number of students with migration backgrounds amid a rapidly diversifying school environment.

The program offers practice‑oriented content spanning multicultural education theory, policy, and real‑world applications.

Key topics include the reality of multicultural society and the need for education; trends in multicultural education theory and policy; multicultural sensitivity education using books; grade‑level application cases; and small‑group discussions to develop practical measures.

Beyond lectures, the course integrates small‑group activities and discussions so participating teachers can share classroom‑ready methods and enhance practical teaching skills for immediate use at their schools.

The Daegu Office of Education plans to follow this basic course with advanced training, implementing a step‑by‑step program to systematically develop multicultural education specialists.

Lee Hye‑jung, director of Future Education, said, “We hope this training will raise teachers’ multicultural sensitivity and expertise so they can provide tailored education that meets the needs of students with migration backgrounds. We will continue supporting efforts to create an inclusive educational environment where all students respect differences and grow together.”
