Despite falling oil prices, fourth-round maximum fuel prices frozen — “after comprehensive consideration”

The government has decided to freeze the fourth-round maximum retail fuel prices at current levels, effective April 24.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 23rd, during a video briefing at the Government Complex Seoul, that it would maintain the fourth-round maximum fuel prices.

Accordingly, the prices will remain the same as in the second and third rounds: gasoline at ₩1,934 per liter (approximately $1.45 per liter), diesel at ₩1,923 per liter (approximately $1.44 per liter), and kerosene at ₩1,530 per liter (approximately $1.15 per liter).

Although international oil prices fell amid recent ceasefire talks, the government opted to keep the caps unchanged. Officials said the decision—grounded in the goal of stabilizing household living costs—reflected a comprehensive assessment of factors including price volatility tied to the Middle East conflict, the need for demand management, and support for business users and vulnerable households.

Wild boar reported on Ewha Womans University campus; multiple reports filed

Authorities received multiple reports of a wild animal, presumed to be a wild boar, on the Ewha Womans University campus in Seoul.

Firefighters began searching the campus over the weekend after receiving calls that a wild boar was roaming the grounds, but they did not locate an animal. Officials also received a similar report around 9 p.m. on the 22nd, but found no traces.

On the 21st, the university posted a notice on its dormitory website titled “Warning: Wild boar sightings on campus,” urging anyone who spots a wild boar to move to a safe place and report it immediately.

70% of private kindergarten teachers went to work despite flu diagnosis — why?

A survey found that roughly seven in 10 kindergarten teachers went to work after contracting the flu.

The Korean Teachers and Education Workers’ Union surveyed 3,547 kindergarten teachers nationwide and found that 64.5% reported having gone to work while infected with influenza.

The figure was higher among private kindergarten teachers, where 73.6% said they attended work despite being sick.

“I felt hostility” — man in his 20s sentenced to 19 years for killing his mother in her 70s

A man in his 20s who fatally stabbed his mother, saying he “felt hostility,” has been sentenced to prison.

The Suwon District Court sentenced the defendant, identified as A, to 19 years in prison for killing his mother with a knife. The court also ordered custodial psychiatric treatment and mandated that he wear an electronic location-tracking device for 10 years after release.

The court explained that the killing was a grievous, antisocial act that represented a severe breach of filial duty and expressed doubt about whether the defendant had shown genuine remorse.
