Sangdong Living Platform: A Game-Changer for Families with Kids and Seniors in Gyeongnam

Uiryeong County in South Gyeongsang has opened the Sangdong Residential Platform as part of its urban regeneration program. Now in full operation, the facility is helping to improve living conditions and restore community ties.
The county announced on April 22 that the Sangdong Residential Platform has officially begun full operations.
The facility held its opening ceremony last December, completed operational preparations, and recently opened to the public.
The Sangdong Residential Platform is the central hub of the Sangdong District’s “Our Neighborhood Revitalization” project. It was developed as a mixed-use community facility aimed at improving residents’ daily lives and rebuilding local social networks.
The building offers a range of amenities, including a kids’ cafe, childcare services, a senior school, a themed library, and rental housing.
The first floor includes a kids’ cafe for infants, toddlers and their caregivers, along with after-school childcare for elementary students. The second floor houses a senior school and a themed library, creating spaces for intergenerational interaction and leisure activities.
The third and fourth floors contain rental housing; move-ins have already begun, and these units are expected to improve local living conditions.
In particular, the kids’ cafe and after-school childcare programs strengthen after-school care capacity and are expected to ease burdens on dual-income households.
The project began with land acquisition in 2020, was selected for the 2021 Urban Regeneration New Deal program, and was completed in 2025.
A county official said, “We expect the Sangdong Residential Platform to become a hub that increases everyday convenience for residents and helps revive the community. We will continue to focus on operations and outreach that residents can clearly feel.”
By providing a variety of resident services, the Sangdong Residential Platform is set to play an important role in raising quality of life and energizing the local community.
If these efforts continue, they should have a positive effect on local development and residents’ well‑being.
