Health authorities have opened an investigation after about 20 students at a Busan university developed symptoms consistent with food poisoning — including vomiting and diarrhea — after eating lunchboxes provided by the welfare program 1,000-KRW Breakfast (1,000 KRW, approximately $0.75).
On the 11th, Busan city officials said they received a report that on the 7th a university experienced a suspected mass food-poisoning incident. Twenty students who ate the lunchboxes reported vomiting and diarrhea.
The lunchboxes were provided under the university welfare program 1,000-KRW Breakfast, run jointly by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, city officials said.
Health authorities are collecting samples from the lunchbox manufacturer and the university and conducting an epidemiological investigation. Officials said there have been no additional reports of suspected food poisoning in the Busan area to date.
