[Sports Today reporter Lim Si-ryeong] Voice actress and broadcaster Seo Yuri says an alleged stalker has filed criminal defamation charges against her.
Seo published a lengthy post on her social media account that began, “The stalking victim has become the suspect.”
She said she hesitated for a long time before speaking out, but that she now feels an emotion stronger than fear.
According to her post, the stalking began in 2020. Seo says someone posted thousands of messages about her across online communities—almost every day, repeatedly. While authorities officially identified a suspect around 2022, she says the harassment had been ongoing long before then.
Seo says unbearable insults and attacks on her character were posted daily for years, and she filed a complaint against the alleged perpetrator under the anti-stalking law. She says the case has now been pending 5 months without resolution.
Frustrated that the alleged perpetrator appeared to believe he would face no consequences, Seo says she disclosed on social media that she had been targeted since 2020, revealed the perpetrator’s surname, reported that the case had been forwarded to prosecutors, and shared a petition template requesting a harsh sentence.
Seo says the alleged perpetrator then sued her for defamation, bringing charges for both false-statement defamation and factual-statement defamation. She says that once the investigation began, he deleted all of his online posts—effectively removing the evidence—and then denied having posted them. According to Seo, he sued her for defamation for speaking the truth and for petitioning for his punishment.
Seo says prosecutors have transferred the case to the Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office, Seongnam Branch, naming her as a suspect, and that she is receiving no protection. “As the victim, I receive no protection, while the person who wrote for years that they hoped I would die remains free today,” she wrote.
She vowed, “I’ll fight to the end. The truth will prevail.”
