[Sports Today reporter Lim Si-ryeong] SM Entertainment (hereafter SM) and the UNICEF Korea Committee have signed a social contribution agreement aimed at empowering girls in Indonesia and creating eco-friendly school environments.
The signing ceremony took place on the 27th at UNICEF’s Indonesia office. This marks the fourth renewal since SM and the UNICEF Korea Committee first partnered in 2015, extending a decade of support for children in Vietnam and the Philippines to include initiatives that improve educational conditions for Indonesian students.
Under the agreement, SM will install modern, gender-segregated restrooms in 60 Indonesian schools by 2028 to improve hygiene and learning conditions for girls. The company will also implement water-quality monitoring systems to secure safe drinking water and support students’ healthy development. Additionally, SM will roll out eco-education programs at 45 schools—such as sustainable on-campus gardening and hygiene-promotion campaigns—to help students become leaders who can respond to the climate crisis and protect the environment.
Attendees at the ceremony included Choi Jeong-min, SM’s CGO; Jo Mi-jin, secretary-general of the UNICEF Korea Committee; Jin Rokenga, deputy representative of UNICEF Indonesia; Marayita Listiyasari, head of climate and WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene); and Hats-to-Hats members Jiu and Carmen.
Jiu and Carmen said, \”We are pleased and honored to participate in this initiative for Indonesian children. We hope students can be healthy and happy at school. We will support their healthy development and do our best to contribute wherever even a small effort can help.\”
Choi Jeong-min, SM’s CGO, noted, \”It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since SM and UNICEF joined forces for children’s futures. Building on a decade of trust, we are beginning a new journey for Indonesian children, and we hope to bring dreams and hope to even more young people.\”
Jo Mi-jin, secretary-general of the UNICEF Korea Committee, also expressed deep gratitude to SM for extending its support to Indonesia, building on work in Vietnam and the Philippines over the past decade. She said the UNICEF Korea Committee will do its utmost to ensure this agreement becomes a meaningful start toward shaping Indonesian children’s futures.
