Ulsan’s Dong-gu government announced on the 26th that it has installed a turtle-ship sculpture crafted by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries to commemorate its merger with Hyundai Mipo in the parking area off Seoldo in Dong-gu.
The sculpture measures 2.5 m (~8.2 ft) wide, 3.3 m (~10.8 ft) long and 3.2 m (~10.5 ft) high, and weighs 2.2 tons (~4,850 lb). Constructed from steel, the work features three-dimensional tilework, distinctive motifs and specialized patterns.
The fabrication was led by master craftsmen and skilled technicians from Hyundai Heavy, who joined new hires, retirees, foreign employees and faculty from the University of Ulsan—bringing together participants across generations and nationalities.
Dong-gu described the sculpture as a tangible outcome of a cooperative project between the community and local industry to shape a shared future.
“The turtle ship stands as a symbol of mutual growth between the community and local businesses,” a Dong-gu official said, adding that the local community will remain a steadfast partner in supporting the continued advancement of the shipbuilding sector and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.
