An AI data center, poised to become a key hub for Jeonbuk’s digital industry, will be built in Jeonju.
On the 20th, Jeonju City Hall hosted a signing ceremony for the “Jeonbuk AI Data Center Construction and Operation Agreement.” Attendees included Acting Mayor Yoon Dong-wook; Lee Jeong-cheon, chairman of the Jeonbuk AI Data Center (JBAIDC); and consortium representatives such as KT’s Jeonnam-Jeonbuk Regional Headquarters, Microsoft Korea, and other partners.
Under the agreement, the special-purpose company (SPC) JBAIDC will invest a total of 300.7 billion KRW (about $225.5 million) to build an AI data center on approximately 11,599 m² (about 124,850 sq ft) in Palbok-dong 3-ga, Deokjin-gu, Jeonju. The facility will have a power capacity of 9.8 MW. Construction is slated for completion by the end of 2027.
The city said it will expedite complex administrative procedures, including permits, to ensure the project proceeds smoothly. JBAIDC also plans to collaborate with Jeonju to strengthen the competitiveness of regional digital infrastructure and to develop cooperative initiatives aimed at creating a data-driven industrial ecosystem.
A city official said the Jeonbuk AI Data Center will serve as an important catalyst for Jeonju’s rise as a center for the AI data industry. Given the rapidly growing demand for data centers, the project is expected to enhance local data-management capabilities, generate jobs, and produce broader economic benefits. The city will actively support the center’s successful construction, the official added.
