A woman in her 40s received a suspended prison sentence for assaulting her unfaithful husband and his mistress with a blunt object.
According to legal sources on the 10th, the Daegu District Court’s Criminal Division 11, led by Judge Lee Young-cheol, sentenced the defendant, identified as A, to three years in prison, suspended for five years, on charges of attempted murder and other offenses.
A was indicted for attempting to kill her husband, a man in his 40s, by striking him on the head with a blunt object on the afternoon of January 17. She was also charged with assaulting her husband’s mistress, a woman in her 40s identified as C.
The investigation revealed that A had been aware of her husband’s affair with C for several years and had repeatedly demanded they end their relationship. However, when the couple persisted in their affair, A’s frustration escalated, ultimately leading to the violent incident.
On the day of the attack, A’s intoxicated husband reportedly told her he wanted to maintain relationships with both women. The situation intensified when C subsequently visited A’s residence.
A, who was also under the influence of alcohol, lost control of her anger upon confronting C and committed the assault.
In explaining the sentencing decision, the court cited several factors: the impulsive nature of the crime, the victims’ expressed desire not to press charges, and A’s husband’s acknowledgment of his responsibility in court, along with his plea for leniency.
