The Incheon Songdo International City high-voltage line installation project, which had been stalled due to local residents’ opposition, has now been given the green light. The Yeonsu District has approved Korea Electric Power Corporation’s (KEPCO) road excavation request after a fourth review.
On February 10, the Yeonsu District announced that during the first-quarter road excavation review committee meeting for 2026, the proposal to excavate roads for a 4.5-kilometer section of the 154,000V high-voltage transmission line in Songdo Blocks 5 to 10 was approved.
Previously, the district had postponed KEPCO’s road excavation proposal, citing insufficient public acceptance. In response, KEPCO revised its plans, increasing the installation depth from the initial 1.1 meters to a maximum of 20 meters, and requested a re-evaluation after modifying construction methods.
A district official stated, “While we were initially concerned about public acceptance, KEPCO has since held several informational meetings and adjusted the installation depth. We now believe these changes have adequately addressed safety concerns.”
