[Sports Today] A 19-year-old national gymnastics representative has been referred to prosecutors for repeatedly sexually harassing a middle school girl.
On the 9th, the Gwangju Northern Police Station reported that they have sent the adult gymnast, identified only as A, to prosecutors without detention. The charges include habitual sexual harassment against a teenage girl, violating the Child Welfare Act, among other allegations.
A is accused of sending multiple sexually explicit messages to a teenage girl, referred to as B, through social media in April of last year.
A reportedly met B while training in the same sport and expressed inappropriate interest by sending messages such as, “Let’s video call while you shower.”
The case was initially reported to the Seoul Seongdong Police Station, which then transferred it to the Northern Police Station where A resides. Investigators there conducted a four-month inquiry into the allegations.
In a separate development, the Korea Gymnastics Association’s internal investigation revealed that A had made sexual remarks to at least four female athletes. Consequently, the association imposed a two-year suspension on A in September of last year.
