President Donald Trump warned that if a deal with Iran collapses again, U.S. strikes against the country would intensify.
On the 25th (local time), Trump posted on Truth Social that negotiations with Iran were proceeding smoothly and that the outcome would be either a \”great deal\” for everyone or no deal at all, Yonhap News reported.
He warned that if talks fail, the U.S. would return to the battlefield and resume strikes, and that any attacks on Iran would be larger and more powerful than ever — a scenario, he said, that nobody wants.
Trump said he urged leaders of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Pakistan, Türkiye, Egypt, Jordan and Bahrain — whom he spoke with by phone on the 23rd — to join the Abraham Accords. The UAE and Bahrain have already signed on.
The Abraham Accords, launched during his first term, aim to normalize diplomatic relations between Israel and certain Arab states. Trump has pledged to expand membership if he returns to office.
He said the United States has invested substantial effort in solving this complex puzzle and argued that, at a minimum, those countries should be required to sign the Abraham Accords.
He added that one or two countries might have legitimate reasons not to sign, which would be acceptable, but that the majority should be ready, willing and able to make any deal with Iran far more historic than it would otherwise be.
Those remarks appear to reflect his claim that, during the May 23 phone calls, regional leaders — alarmed enough by the prospect of renewed war to urge him to accept Iran’s ceasefire proposal — persuaded him to hold off on military action and to make accession to the Abraham Accords a condition for their support.
Trump said the countries that have already joined the accords (UAE, Bahrain, Morocco, Sudan and Kazakhstan) have shown that the agreement brought financial, economic and social benefits even during times of conflict, and that none of them has proposed withdrawing or pausing participation.
He said Saudi Arabia and Qatar should sign immediately and that other countries should follow; if they do not, he warned, it would demonstrate bad faith and those states should not participate in the Iran deal.
Trump also claimed the Arab leaders he spoke with told him they would consider it an honor for Iran to join the Abraham Accords as soon as the relevant documents are signed.
\”Therefore, I will require all countries to sign the Abraham Accords immediately,\” he said. \”If Iran signs an agreement with me, as U.S. president I would be honored to see Iran become part of this unparalleled international coalition.\” He added that he would instruct his representatives to begin and complete the process to bring these countries into the historic Abraham Accords.
