[Herald Economy reporter Jeong Kyung-su] A senior commander of an Iran-aligned Iraqi militia, whom U.S. authorities say took part in attacks targeting Jews in the U.S. and Europe, reportedly targeted President Donald Trump’s eldest daughter, Ivanka Trump, for assassination.
The New York Post reported on the 22nd (local time), citing sources, that Mohamed Bakr Saad Dawood al-Sadi (32), a commander in the Iraqi militia Kata’ib Hezbollah, appears to have been targeting Ivanka Trump.
According to the report, after the U.S. drone strike that killed IRGC Quds Force commander Qasem Soleimani in 2020, al-Sadi drew up a plan for revenge against the Trump family.
Sources say al-Sadi had obtained maps showing the location and layout of Ivanka’s Florida home, along with the house’s blueprints. He posted a map image of the area near her residence on social media and wrote, “Americans, look at this picture. Your luxury homes and the Secret Service will not protect you. We are currently in the surveillance and analysis phase. Our revenge is only a matter of time.”
Entifad Kanbar, who worked at the Iraqi embassy in Washington, D.C., said al-Sadi repeatedly stated after Soleimani’s death that “just as Trump burned our house, we must burn Trump’s house, and to do that we must kill Ivanka.”
New York prosecutors charged al-Sadi on the 15th with supporting a terrorist organization and conspiring to use explosives. They allege he directed or coordinated 18 terrorist attacks or attempts in the U.S. and Europe, including a Molotov cocktail attack at a Belgian synagogue in March and a knife attack targeting members of the Jewish community in London in April.
Authorities arrested al-Sadi in Türkiye on the 15th and transferred him to the United States.
Officials say he served as a core member of Kata’ib Hezbollah and as a key operative within the IRGC. He was a close associate of Soleimani and, after Soleimani’s death, maintained close ties with Soleimani’s successor, Esmail Qaani.
Kata’ib Hezbollah is considered one of Iraq’s main Iran-aligned armed groups. The organization has drawn international attention whenever allegations have linked it to attacks on U.S. and Israeli facilities or Jewish communities.
Ivanka converted to Judaism in 2009 after marrying Jewish real estate developer Jared Kushner. She served as a senior White House adviser in Trump’s first administration.
