Choo Mi-ae, the Democratic Party candidate for governor of Gyeonggi Province, said on the 23rd, “We must prepare together so that technological advances in the AI era improve workers’ lives rather than undermine them.”
According to reporting by the Incheon Ilbo, Choo attended a policy handover ceremony with the KCTU Gyeonggi regional headquarters at Yeonhwajang in Suwon, where a memorial marking the 17th anniversary of the late President Roh Moo-hyun’s death was held that morning. She warned that how Gyeonggi is governed could become a model for the entire country and said she is concerned that every sector must perform well.
At the ceremony, Kim Yong-mok, chair of the KCTU Gyeonggi regional headquarters, and leaders of local branches attended and handed over briefs on labor issues and policy proposals.
On labor issues, Choo first addressed industrial transition in the AI era. “We are entering the AI era in the labor sector,” she said, adding that the public shares the view that social acceptance depends on demonstrating job stability.
“In this era of labor crisis, we must work together to ensure that technological progress connects to better lives rather than infringe on individuals,” she said. “We need to move forward together and maintain frequent dialogue.”
Choo also stressed the need to build a communication system with labor groups. “I understand the desire to have a personal assurance that commitments won’t change before and after the election,” she said, adding, “You need not worry.”
She added that, while she is cautious during the campaign period, if elected she will establish a communication system beginning with the transition team. “That will allow policies to be effectively reviewed under an ongoing communication framework,” she said.
Choo appealed for support: “If given the opportunity, I will follow the procedures I described and carry them out faithfully. Please support me.”
