The People Power Party has finished counting votes in its internal primaries and confirmed its nominees for Andong mayor and Yecheon county chief in North Gyeongsang Province for the 9th nationwide local elections.
On the 8th, the party’s Central Nomination Committee announced in its 38th statement that it had officially selected Kwon Ki-chang as the People Power Party’s candidate for Andong mayor and Ahn Byung-yoon as its candidate for Yecheon county chief.
The Andong mayor primary was held over two days, from the 7th to the 8th. The process equally weighted delegate voting and a public opinion poll at 50% each. Delegate voting took place in a primary conducted under the National Election Commission’s supervision and via ARS (automated response system), while two polling firms each surveyed 500 members of the public for the opinion poll.
The nomination committee converted the delegate vote totals and poll results into equivalents based on the number of valid delegate votes, combined them, scaled the aggregate to a 100% basis, and then applied candidate-specific bonus or penalty points before making its final decision.
As a result, Kwon Ki-chang was chosen as the People Power Party’s nominee for Andong mayor.
The Yecheon county chief primary followed the same schedule and procedures. It also split the weighting evenly between delegate votes and public opinion polls, converted results on the basis of valid delegate votes, and applied candidate-specific adjustments before selecting the final nominee.
Accordingly, the committee confirmed Ahn Byung-yoon as the People Power Party’s candidate for Yecheon county chief in North Gyeongsang.
