The Incheon branch of the Democratic Party announced the results of its internal primaries and candidate screenings for the June 3 local elections for metropolitan and municipal council seats.
On May 1, the party’s Incheon Election Management Committee posted the internal primary outcomes for 14 seats — 12 metropolitan and 2 municipal — on its website.
For metropolitan council seats, the party designated Kim Gwang-ho for Yeongjong District 1, Kim Gwang-hoon for Yeongjong District 2, Yoon Hee-jung for Jemulpo District 1, Jung Chae-hoon for Yeonsu District 6, and Im Hyun-ju for Gyeyang District 2. Additionally, Kim Young-sang (Seo District 2), Choi Byung-eun (Seo District 3), Jeon Jae-woon (Seo District 4), Lee Soon-hak (Geomdan District 2), Yang In-mo (Geomdan District 3), Kim Dae-young (Michuhol District 3), and Seok Jeong-gyu (Gyeyang District 3) secured party nominations to appear on the ballot in the general election.
In municipal council contests, Lee Jae-wook and Nam Seong-hoon were assigned the A and B ballot positions, respectively, in Bupyeong ‘Na’ district, while Baek Seung-hwa received the A slot in Gyeyang ‘Ga’ district.
Earlier, the Democratic Party’s Incheon Candidate Recommendation Committee released the results of its fifth round of screenings for municipal council candidates.
Most districts will determine nominees through contested primaries where two or more candidates compete. Contested primaries are set for Yeongjong Ga and Na; Jemulpo Ga, Na, and Da; Michuhol Da and Ra; Yeonsu Ra, Ma, and Ba; Gyeyang Na, Da, and Ra; Seo Ga, Na, Da, and Ra; and Geomdan Ga, Na, and Da.
By contrast, the committee designated single, unopposed candidates in Ongjin County: Kim Young-jin for Ga, Kim Jae-hong for Na, and Lee Ui-myeong for Da.
The Incheon party will confirm its final candidates after the party’s Supreme Council or the metropolitan/provincial executive committee votes to ratify the primary winners.
