On the 25th, Kim Seong-je, the People Power Party candidate for mayor of Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province, inspected delays in the arcade construction at Bugok Dokkaebi Market and announced plans to implement measures to limit losses for local merchants.
That day, Kim visited the market, inspected the construction site and heard directly from merchants about the difficulties they are facing.
Merchants said the delays have disrupted their businesses. The project, originally scheduled for completion in April 2026, now faces an unavoidable extension through late May due to setbacks in the schedule.
Kim Seong-je said, “While improving the urban environment is important, priority must be given to minimizing the harm construction causes to merchants and residents. We need tighter project oversight and stronger support measures to mitigate the losses from this delay.”

He said the project will transform Bugok Dokkaebi Market into a broader, safer plaza-style space. Once the arcade is completed, the market should become a more comfortable, weather-protected plaza that can help revitalize the traditional market.
The project was launched after the previous arcade collapsed under heavy snowfall in 2024. Construction began in November of last year with a total budget of 4.3 billion KRW (approximately $3.225 million).
