The People Power Party’s Nomination Committee said on April 21 that Yang Jeong-mu, the former head of the Jeonju Gap party branch, has applied for the party’s nomination in the additional call for candidates for the June 3 local elections for governor of North Jeolla Province. The committee said it will begin a thorough vetting process to evaluate Yang’s qualifications and electability. Yang holds a master’s degree in law from the graduate school of Jeonju University and previously served as chair of the Jeollabuk-do regional council of the Presidential Committee for National Integration. Earlier, the committee reviewed Kim Gwang-jong, a former National Assembly candidate from Jeonju-eul who had been the sole applicant for the North Jeolla governorship.
