[Herald Economy=Senior Reporter Park Jong-il] Former Seongdong deputy district mayor Yu Bohwa secured the Democratic Party nomination for Seongdong District mayor on the afternoon of the 20th.
The Seoul chapter of the Democratic Party held a primary between the 19th and 20th based on polls of party members (50%) and residents (50%). Yu Bohwa, a preliminary candidate, finished first and won the nomination.
Yu posted the result on his Facebook page to inform residents. He wrote, “I will build a better future for Seongdong together with our residents. Dear respected Seongdong residents and party comrades, I have been confirmed as the Democratic Party’s candidate for Seongdong District mayor.”
He added, “I sincerely thank you for giving someone like me the opportunity to serve Seongdong. I will never forget your trust and support.”
He pledged, “Now we will unite as one team to win Seongdong. We will carry forward the other candidates’ strong pledges and intentions to build a stronger Seongdong.”
Yu promised, “I will win the general election, restore Seongdong’s pride, and deliver changes residents can feel.”
Yu served four years as Seongdong’s deputy district mayor while Jeong Won-oh, the Democratic candidate for Seoul mayor, led the district.
Observers say Jeong Won-oh’s endorsement likely played a significant role in this primary.
