Kim Jong-cheon, defeated in the Democratic Party primary for mayor of Daejeon’s Seo District, accepted the outcome and pledged his support to fellow candidate Jeon Mun-hak.
At a press conference at the Daejeon City Council on April 17, Kim expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support he received and apologized for falling short of voters’ expectations.
He emphasized the principle of “putting the party before personal ambition” and said his campaign will continue as a joint effort with Jeon Mun-hak. He pledged to work with Jeon for the success of the Lee Jae-myung administration, Seo District’s development, and the Democratic Party’s victory.
As a comrade of more than 20 years, Kim said he will continue to share values and a common vision with Jeon and stressed that Jeon’s combined experience in national government, municipal administration, and the legislature is essential to improving residents’ quality of life.
Kim criticized the current district administration as ineffective and argued the election is an opportunity to redesign Seo District’s future. He pledged to serve as a co-chair of Jeon’s campaign and to help secure his victory.
Kim urged voters to give Jeon their full support ahead of the Seo District mayor runoff scheduled for April 20–21.
He concluded by thanking supporters and party members once again for their interest and continued support.
