Party-member vote and other steps to select the final candidate on the 26th
Yoon Gap-geun and Kim Young-hwan to decide the final nominee on the 27th
In the People Power Party’s Daegu mayoral primary ahead of the June 3 local elections, preliminary candidates Choo Kyung-ho and Yoo Young-ha will face each other. In the North Chungcheong governor primary, Yoon Gap-geun emerged victorious and will compete against incumbent Governor Kim Young-hwan in the final round.
On the afternoon of the 17th, Park Deok-heum, chair of the People Power Party’s nomination committee, held a briefing at the party’s central office to announce the preliminary results for Daegu and North Chungcheong.
The committee conducted automated phone polls (ARS) and candidate interviews over April 15–16. The vote combined 70% weight from party members and 30% from the general public to evaluate six Daegu mayoral hopefuls: Yoo Young-ha, Yoon Jae-ok, Lee Jae-man, Choo Kyung-ho, Choi Eun-seok and Hong Seok-jun.
Choo and Yoo will debate on the 19th. Following party-member voting and a public poll on April 24–25, the committee will select the final nominee on the 26th.
In the North Chungcheong governor preliminary, Yoon Gap-geun defeated Yoon Hee-geun.
The preliminary results were based on a voting formula of 70% party electorate and 30% public opinion polling conducted April 15–16; the committee did not disclose vote shares.
Preliminary winner Yoon and Governor Kim Young-hwan will hold a debate on the 20th. Polling and party-member voting over two days beginning April 25 will determine the final nominee on the 27th.
