[Herald Economy=Reporter Shin Hyewon] With the United States and Iran agreeing to a two-week truce, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said on April 8 (local time) that the ceasefire remains fragile and that President Donald Trump is seeking rapid progress.
According to AFP and other outlets, Vance, who is visiting Hungary, welcomed the ceasefire and urged Iran to negotiate in good faith to reach a long-term agreement.
He said President Trump had instructed him and the entire negotiating team to pursue an agreement in good faith. “If Iran negotiates with us in good faith, we can reach a lasting agreement,” Vance added.
He warned that if Iran refuses to negotiate, Tehran will learn that the U.S. president will not sit idly by. “President Trump wants to make rapid progress,” he said.
Vance is expected to lead the U.S. negotiating team at ceasefire talks with Iran scheduled for April 10 in Islamabad, Pakistan.
