Lee Jun-seok, leader of the Reform Party, openly criticized the People Power Party’s (PPP) internal strategies and leadership flaws, exposing the true nature of its leadership. Following revelations by conservative YouTuber Jeon Han-gil, the PPP’s internal response became apparent. Lee publicly challenged the party leadership’s duplicitous stance. His remarks target both the PPP’s leadership and strategy, intensifying the controversy.

On the 10th, Lee shared his views on Facebook regarding Jeon Han-gil’s ongoing pressure on the PPP leadership. He stated, “When leadership publicly denies a relationship but secretly calls to say ‘please wait,’ it’s not strategic ambiguity; it’s strategic cowardice.”

He further argued that “Jeon Yu-gwan (alias Jeon Han-gil) and the Yoon Again faction are not subjects for negotiation or appeasement; they need to be dealt with decisively,” emphasizing the need for clear boundaries. Lee highlighted the core of Jeon’s revelations from a YouTube broadcast the previous night.

He explained, “The essence of Jeon’s revelation is simple: the PPP leadership claims publicly that they’ve never aligned with the Yoon Again faction, while behind the scenes, they’re reassuring conspiracy theorists through Supreme Council member Kim Min-soo, saying ‘it’s just a strategic separation, so please be patient.'” This indicates a disconnect between their official stance and private communications.

Lee also criticized Kim Min-soo’s comments as contradictory. He pointed out, “On the same day, Kim Min-soo said at a Free National Alliance event that ‘we can’t win local elections with Yoon Again.’ They disassociate in public but embrace in private. Their daytime message is separation, while at night it’s ‘please wait.'”

Criticism of the PPP leadership’s recent response continued. Lee remarked, “What’s even more astounding is the PPP leadership’s reaction.” He noted that when Jeon issued a public ultimatum demanding a response within three days, the leadership replied, “We have nothing to say; interpret it as you wish.” They neither confirm nor deny anything, he pointed out. Lee escalated his criticism by questioning, “Who would believe that a leadership silenced by the pressure of a single conspiracy theorist can lead a break from the coup forces?”

He added, “We’ve seen this strategy play out before. Representative Hwang Kyo-ahn took the same path,” stating that they neglected innovation by relying on Jeon Gwang-hoon’s rallies and the fervor of the Taegukgi faction.

He continued, “The result was a crushing defeat in the 2020 general elections, resignation from leadership, and political downfall,” citing past examples. He also noted, “And what followed? Jeon Gwang-hoon turned on Hwang Kyo-ahn, spreading false accusations of ’50 billion KRW (37.5 million USD) in exchange for nominations.'” Lee warned of the dangers of relying on a hardcore support base. He emphasized, “The approval ratings borrowed from them are a debt,” adding, “You must pay interest on it.”

Earlier, on the night of the 9th, Jeon Han-gil disclosed details of his communication with the PPP leadership on his YouTube channel, ‘Jeon Han-gil News.’ He stated, “Kim clearly conveyed to me that spokesperson Park Seong-hoon’s statement on the 2nd—that ‘Representative Jang has never supported the coup or colluded with the Yoon Again faction’—was his personal opinion, not Representative Jang’s official stance.”

Jeon also mentioned, “Representative Jang and Supreme Council member Kim said that ‘winning the local elections is the top priority,’ and ‘to achieve that, we can strategically distance ourselves from Yoon Again.'” He further explained that Kim said, “Representative Jang keeps his promises, but there’s a time lag; please be patient.” Jeon indicated that he would accept this explanation and monitor the situation for now.

The public criticism from Lee and Jeon’s statements appear to have increased pressure on the PPP leadership regarding their relationship with their strong support base. As local elections approach, it remains to be seen how this controversy will affect the party’s strategy and internal cohesion.
