[EPN Enpinow reporter Baek Hyun-seok] Suwon Museum of Art is offering a special music experience this May for Family Month, open to people of all ages.
The program, titled Sound and Music Time, is staged as a performance in which participants use their bodies to produce sound and, alongside artists, help build a single musical piece.
The event is notable for prioritizing sound and active participation over passive viewing. Visitors will generate a variety of sounds through movement and collaborate with sound designer Yang Seon-yong and choreographer Lee Min-jin to complete a musical work.
The program unfolds in three stages. The first, Listen: Opening Sounds, encourages participants to hear everyday noises anew and to sharpen their auditory awareness.
The second stage, Collecting and Recording Sounds: Drawing Invisible Sounds, invites attendees to capture the various sounds in the lobby and translate their textures into visual symbols that form a shared score.
In the final stage, Mixing Sounds: Sound into Music, participants use the scores they created to blend body-generated sounds with the artists’ playing, bringing a single composition to completion.
Yang Seon-yong, participating as an artist, is a composer and sound designer who was selected as a 2023 artist by the Korea Arts Creation Academy and was a nominee last year in the music category of Arko’s Creative Studio New Works of the Year. Choreographer Lee Min-jin has consistently explored sensory themes on stages including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Op/Sin Festival.
Sound and Music Time will take place on May 9 at 2:00 p.m. in the Suwon Museum of Art lobby. Pre-registered attendees will receive assigned seating and museum souvenirs; on-site participation is available while seats remain.
Nam Gi-min, director of the Suwon Museum of Art, said the museum hopes the program will draw visitors as part of the 2026–2027 Suwon Year of Visit and that the sound-based event will put visitors center stage.
