BBS Buddhist Broadcasting said on April 24 that it officially launched the BBS Buddhist Broadcasting Choir on April 21 and has begun full-scale activities to broaden the reach of Buddhist music and strengthen outreach.
This choir was created to enrich Buddhist culture by producing high-quality music content. It was assembled by accomplished Buddhist musicians from across the music world.
Led by tenor Han Jeong-il, the BBS Buddhist Broadcasting Choir comprises 11 professional musicians who hold degrees from prominent music schools in Korea and abroad and who remain active performers.
Han Jeong-il is a conductor who has led major temple choirs, including Bongeunsa (Jogye Order), Gwanmunsa (Cheontae Order), the Jingak Order’s Seoul Diocese, and Yonggungsa (Taego Order). He was the recipient of the fourth \”Buddhist Music of the Year\” award. The choir members are seasoned professionals as well, with experience directing temple choirs and performing with the national chorus and opera companies. Their repertoire spans Buddhist music, classical works, art song, and musical theater.
Starting with the launch ceremony, the BBS Buddhist Broadcasting Choir will perform at mountain-temple concerts and public events nationwide. They will also appear on BBS television and radio programs to promote Buddhist hymns and to offer refined vocal performances.
