Daegu Concert House is recruiting musicians for the 2026 class of the Solasian Youth Orchestra, one of South Korea’s leading programs for emerging artists.
Applications are open Monday, May 18 through Friday, May 29. Conductor Seong Si-yeon will lead the orchestra, with violinist Im Ji-young serving as the featured soloist.
Launched in 2018, the Solasian Youth Orchestra accepts music majors born between 1998 and 2009, both from Korea and abroad. The program focuses on hands-on, performance-based training to help participants evolve into professional musicians. Leveraging the Daegu Concert House’s dedicated classical venues, it gives young players the chance to share the stage with internationally renowned conductors and soloists.
Musicians chosen through auditions will take part in intensive training and orchestral rehearsals at Daegu Concert House from July 31 through August 7. Their public performance is scheduled for August 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Grand Hall.
Past collaborators include internationally celebrated figures such as Sunwook Kim, Domingo Hindoyan, Kun-Woo Paik, Clara Jumi Kang and Son Min-su. This year’s lineup is especially notable: Seong Si-yeon, the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s first female associate conductor, will appear alongside Queen Elisabeth Competition winner Im Ji-young.

Internationally active musicians will also take part in teaching and mentoring, including concertmaster Igitbi of the Orchestre National de Picardie, Kim Hye-jin of the Paris Opera Orchestra, and Kim Sang-yun of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra in the United States.
This year’s schedule extends beyond music instruction. A series of side events — including a pop-up program in collaboration with local coffee brand Lisit — will offer participants broader cultural and humanities experiences alongside musical exchange.
The orchestra is accepting applications from string players, woodwind and brass players, and percussionists. Applicants should upload an audition video to YouTube that includes a free-choice piece and the prescribed work, then submit the application via the Google Form.
