Singer Younha has established a scholarship to support research in basic science.

On the evening of the 7th, JTBC’s variety show ‘Hidden Singer 8’ featured Younha as the original artist, who went head-to-head with several talented impersonators.

Younha—nicknamed the “science musician” for song titles such as ‘Event Horizon,’ ‘Oort Cloud,’ and ‘Point Nemo’—drew praise when science communicator Gwedo joined the judging panel and called her the music industry’s leading science communicator.

Gwedo said, “If you open her albums and examine them track by track, the narratives are so deep they could fill a book. She watched many of my videos and went on to create numerous standout songs.” He added that Younha is actually a subscriber to his YouTube channel.

Gwedo also surprised the audience by revealing that Younha hadn’t simply donated for public goodwill—she established a scholarship specifically for scientists in underfunded basic science fields. He called it a remarkable achievement that a song title like ‘Event Horizon’ entered the mainstream conversation.
