[Sports Today Reporter Im Si-ryeong] Claims have surfaced that K-pop supergroup BTS were subjected to a racially insensitive remark during a taping of NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
BTS taped the episode on March 25 (local time).
During a rehearsal, comedian Seth Herzog reportedly quipped to the members, \”Is anyone here from the North?\” Some people in the live audience perceived the remark as racially insensitive and criticized it.
The clip circulated widely on social media, amplifying the controversy. In response to the backlash, Herzog has set his personal social media accounts to private.
U.S. outlet TMZ reported that Herzog apologized to BTS. The network has acknowledged the incident and said it is being treated seriously and reviewed internally.
Earlier, on the 21st, BTS performed their first full-group comeback stage in about four years at Seoul’s Gwanghwamun Square. They then traveled to New York to launch their global activities with \”Spotify: BTS Swimside.\” On The Tonight Show, the members discussed their feelings about the comeback and the making of their new single, \”Arirang.\”
