How SEVENTEEN’s ‘So Ya Gok’ Became a Gold Disc Sensation in Japan: A Must-Read Guide!

SEVENTEEN sub-unit BSS, consisting of members Dokyeom and Seungkwan, has achieved another milestone in Japan.
The Japan Record Association announced on the 10th that BSS’s debut mini-album “Soyagok” has been certified Gold based on January sales figures. The association awards Gold (100,000 units), Platinum (250,000 units), and Double Platinum (500,000 units) certifications monthly, based on cumulative shipments.
This marks SEVENTEEN’s third Gold certification for a sub-unit release. Previously, the Jeonghan and Wonwoo single “THIS MAN” and the S.Coups and Mingyu mini-album “HYPE VIBES” also earned Gold status. As a full group, SEVENTEEN boasts an impressive 18 Gold-certified albums, including singles.
“Soyagok” made a splash in Japan, selling nearly 100,000 copies on its release day and topping the Oricon Daily Album Ranking on January 22. The album’s popularity hasn’t waned, as evidenced by its recent surprise return to the #1 spot on February 5.
The title track “Blue” has also captivated Japanese listeners. It claimed the top spot on Spotify Japan’s Daily Viral Songs chart on January 26 and held that position for six consecutive days. This success is particularly noteworthy in the K-pop landscape, which often favors high-energy performances.
“Blue” continues to gain traction, fueled by a vocal challenge featuring artists from various genres. Fan-created duet covers and short-form videos incorporating the song into relatable breakup scenarios have resonated with audiences. This engagement has propelled “Blue” into the upper ranks of YouTube Korea’s Weekly Shorts Popular Songs chart for the period of January 30 to February 5.
