Seventeen’s DK and Seungkwan, known as the unit ‘MeBoys’, have set another record in Japan.
The Japan Record Association announced on the 10th that DK and Seungkwan’s debut mini-album ‘Serenade’ has earned Gold certification as of January. The association awards Gold (100,000 units), Platinum (250,000 units), and Double Platinum (500,000 units) certifications based on cumulative shipments each month.
This marks Seventeen’s third Gold Disc certification for a unit project. Previously, Jeonghan and Wonwoo’s single ‘THIS MAN’ and S.Coups and Mingyu’s mini-album ‘HYPE VIBES’ also achieved Gold status. As a full group, Seventeen now boasts an impressive 18 Gold Disc certified albums, including singles.
‘Serenade’ made waves upon its Japanese release, selling nearly 100,000 copies on its first day and immediately topping the Oricon Daily Album Ranking on January 22. The album’s popularity shows no signs of waning, as it recently reclaimed the #1 spot on the same chart on February 5.
The title track ‘Blue’ has also captured hearts in Japan. It climbed to the top of Spotify Japan’s Daily Viral Songs chart on the 26th and held that position for six consecutive days. This success is particularly noteworthy for a traditional ballad in a K-pop market typically dominated by high-energy performances.
‘Blue’ continues to gain traction, fueled by a vocal challenge featuring artists from various genres. Fan-driven duet challenges and short-form videos incorporating the song into relatable breakup scenarios have resonated with audiences. As a result, ‘Blue’ has secured a top spot on YouTube Korea’s latest Weekly Shorts Popular Songs chart for the period of January 30 to February 5.
