Toyota’s electric sedan bZ7 generated a strong market reaction in China, taking more than 3,000 orders within an hour of its launch.
Over the following three weeks, cumulative sales climbed to around 7,000 units, highlighting a robust initial demand.
That result is notable given the intensity of China’s EV market and suggests Toyota may be entering a new phase in its electric-vehicle strategy.

The bZ7’s base price is about 147,800 CNY (about $21,475). That’s roughly 32 million KRW (about $24,000). Despite its full-size dimensions, the car is highly competitive on price.
The body measures 5,130 mm in length, with a 3,020 mm wheelbase — larger than many flagship sedans such as the Hyundai Grandeur. That size-for-price ratio is a key competitive advantage.
Inside, Toyota fit a 15.6-inch central touchscreen and a 27-inch head-up display. The cabin includes zero-gravity seats and an onboard refrigerator, bringing premium-level convenience features to the segment.

The bZ7 was developed with Chinese tech partners and runs on Huawei’s HarmonyOS 5.0. It also integrates with Xiaomi’s smart ecosystem.
Drivers can control smart-home devices from the vehicle, effectively linking daily life and the driving experience.
The car also features a LiDAR-based advanced driver-assistance system and supports about 50 safety and convenience features, including urban and highway driving assistance — significantly raising its technical competitiveness.

The bZ7 offers a maximum range of up to 700 km. It’s available with 71 kWh and 88 kWh battery options, and Toyota claims roughly 300 km of range can be added with a 10-minute charge.
That combination delivers both charging efficiency and everyday usability. A dual-chamber air suspension further improves ride comfort and cabin quietness.
Toyota has not disclosed a global launch schedule. Still, the bZ7 highlights a shift in the company’s EV approach, and attention is turning to whether it will reach other markets.
