Kia has focused global attention by releasing teaser images of the next-generation Seltos, a model it says will shake up the North American small-SUV segment.
The teasers signal a deliberate departure from the Seltos’ previous soft, city-oriented look toward a tougher, more angular, traditional SUV profile that evokes a larger SUV presence.
According to industry sources and Kia Motors America (KMA), Kia unveiled the teaser images for the 2027 second-generation, all-new Seltos ahead of the 2026 New York International Auto Show, which opens April 1.
The silhouette makes clear the application of Kia’s current design language, Opposites United.

The front end, dominated by vertical daytime running lights and a wide rectangular radiator grille, creates a visual identity that reads like a scaled-down version of Kia’s flagship, the second‑generation Telluride.
Bigger, bolder — leading a small-SUV shake-up
The Seltos’ redesign is more than skin deep; it reflects a broader trend of small SUVs growing in size and capability.
Specifications leaked to foreign outlets indicate the new Seltos gains substantial wheelbase and overall length versus the outgoing model, significantly improving passenger room and cargo capacity.
With its larger footprint, a vehicle once seen primarily as a “first car” now offers the space and versatility expected of a family vehicle.

As rivals also bulk up, observers say Kia appears to be using a more imposing Seltos to reinforce its lead in the small-SUV segment.
Analysts expect Kia to add a wide array of hybrid powertrains alongside gasoline engines, aiming to meet both urban and light off‑road demand.
Upsized small SUVs face a pricing challenge
Still, the Seltos’ larger size and high-tech features raise concerns about inevitable price gains.
If the segment’s defining advantage—value—is diluted, Kia risks cannibalizing sales of vehicles in the next segment up, like the Sportage.

Ultimately, whether the Seltos becomes a global hit will depend on how competitively Kia prices a model that now offers bolder styling and a roomier interior.
Kia says it will live-stream, for the first time worldwide on press day at the New York Auto Show, the trim-by-trim specifications that will determine the new Seltos’ capabilities and price competitiveness.
