Charles III: “Silent but Deadly”

The Lotus Eletre, the first all-electric SUV from the iconic British sports car manufacturer, has been tapped as King Charles III’s new daily driver.
British media reported on January 10th that His Majesty arrived at a church near Sandringham in the Lotus Eletre to attend a service. When onlookers showed interest in the vehicle, the King quipped, “It’s silent but deadly.”
Lotus interpreted the monarch’s “silent but deadly” comment as a nod to the Eletre’s driving dynamics. The EV delivers the smooth, quiet ride expected of electric vehicles while maintaining Lotus’s signature sharp handling and exhilarating performance on demand.
The Eletre isn’t just another high-output EV; it’s a testament to Lotus’s renowned “handling DNA” that fosters a connection between car and driver. Leveraging Formula One technology, the SUV’s body control belies its size, offering nimble cornering and responsive dynamics typically associated with smaller sports cars. Through the Eletre, Lotus aims to challenge preconceptions about high-performance EVs.
The King’s Eletre sports a bespoke “Royal Claret” finish, a deep purple hue traditionally reserved for the royal family’s ceremonial vehicles. The choice of a Lotus, which marries British heritage with driving pleasure, is particularly noteworthy given Charles III’s well-known advocacy for environmental causes.
A spokesperson for Lotus Cars Korea stated, “The Eletre, now chosen by the British monarch, redefines the ‘joy of driving’ that Lotus has championed for 76 years for the electric age. We’re committed to bringing Lotus’s unique philosophy – prioritizing the emotional connection between car and driver over mere performance figures – to our Korean customers.”
