For years, the Kia Carnival has dominated the family vehicle market in South Korea. However, the recent launch of Hyundai’s Staria Lounge is challenging this status quo, offering consumers a compelling alternative.
The Staria Lounge isn’t just another Carnival competitor. With its larger dimensions, lounge-inspired interior, and hybrid powertrain, it’s positioning itself as a space-centric family vehicle that’s redefining the segment.
Staria Lounge: A Spacious Marvel

The Staria Lounge’s trump card is its sheer size. At 5,255 mm long, it outstrips the Carnival by about 100 mm. Its 3,275 mm wheelbase is also 90 mm longer. While these numbers might seem incremental, the real-world difference in interior space is substantial.
The second and third rows are particularly spacious, with the rear panoramic window and dual sunroofs creating an airy, open feel. This roominess is a game-changer for long family trips, significantly reducing passenger fatigue and setting the Staria Lounge apart from its competitors.
Luxury Redefined: The Lounge Trim

The Staria has shed any remnants of its commercial vehicle heritage. The Lounge trim, in particular, offers an interior that rivals high-end minivans.
Standard features include a 12.3-inch digital cluster, navigation system, and heated and ventilated front seats. Higher trims boast Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated second-row seats, and 180-degree swiveling captain’s chairs. It’s clear that Hyundai has designed the Staria Lounge as a mobile living room rather than just a means of transportation.

Under the hood, the Staria Lounge features a 1.6-liter turbocharged hybrid powertrain, delivering a combined output of 245 horsepower. Despite its size, this setup provides ample power for both city driving and highway cruising.
Fuel efficiency is impressive at up to 12.7 km/L combined. The Staria Lounge also comes standard with key safety features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and highway driving assist. This comprehensive package, with minimal reliance on optional extras, contributes to high customer satisfaction.
Pricing for the Staria Lounge starts at 47.05 million KRW (approximately 35,288 USD).
