Eugene Group will team up with a U.S. broadcaster to expand K-culture content in the American market.
Eugene ENT, the group’s media holding company, said on April 21 that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Sinclair Broadcast Group, the largest regional broadcast network in the United States.
The agreement was signed in Las Vegas on April 19, with Sinclair CTO Del Pax and Eugene ENT CEO Heeseok Kang in attendance. On the same day, YTN signed a separate MOU with Sinclair to further promote K-culture across the U.S. market.
Sinclair operates 185 local television stations across 86 U.S. markets. The company has been expanding partnerships with South Korean broadcasters and media firms to distribute K-content. It plans to launch ‘K-Channel 82,’ a dedicated K-content channel built on the next-generation ATSC 3.0 standard, offering interactive services, targeted advertising, shopping and live voting. ATSC 3.0 is an IP-based transmission technology that blends traditional broadcasting with telecommunications to enable converged services.
Sinclair intends to launch K-Channel 82 in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 14 (local time). The channel will aim at viewers nationwide, with a particular focus on Gen Z and millennial audiences. Observers say the move is a bid to secure market share at a time when there are few dedicated terrestrial K-culture channels in the United States.
Under the MOU, the partners will use K-Channel 82 and Sinclair’s broadcast network to bring a range of Korean programming to American viewers — including news, educational and cultural shows, documentaries and informational programs. They also plan joint productions aimed at U.S. audiences and will coordinate on scheduling, content operations, studio and production collaboration, and the development of new business models.
Eugene ENT said it will leverage its planning and production experience in factual programming to introduce content that showcases Korean society, industry and culture to the U.S. market.
A company official said, “This agreement is significant because it pairs Eugene ENT’s content production capabilities with Sinclair’s U.S. broadcast network. It will serve as the starting point for building a media platform that connects K-culture and Korean industry to the world.”
