They say life sometimes hands you moments straight out of a movie. On a routine walk home, one woman found herself at the center of one of those impossible stories: she pulled a tiny life from a pile of trash—and what followed shocked people worldwide.
At first she thought she’d rescued a run-of-the-mill stray kitten. But the truth was far more extraordinary: the little cat turned out to be a “good-luck” rarity valued at more than 300 million KRW (approximately $225,000).
The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, heard a faint whimper coming from inside a trash bin as she was walking home.

When she lifted the lid, she discovered a kitten in heartbreaking condition: a broken leg, severe skin disease, and so sick it couldn’t open its eyes.
Without hesitating, she scooped him up and rushed him to the vet. With tender, round-the-clock care, the little cat healed. He turned into a devoted shadow—glued to her side—and she decided to make him part of the family. Just days after she adopted him, the vet dropped a jaw‑dropping revelation.

The vet explained the kitten was an ultra‑rare male calico—a genetic one-in-3,000 occurrence.
Calico coloring—patches of white, black, and orange—usually shows up only in females because it requires two X chromosomes. A male calico is the result of an extraordinary genetic quirk. In places like Japan, these cats are considered symbols of good luck and can fetch prices around 300 million KRW (approximately $225,000) or 30,000,000 JPY (approximately $201,000).
She named him Marter. More than any price tag, she treasures the bond they share, and says they’re happily building a life together. The tiny animal pulled from a trash can ended up giving her the kind of miracle you only see in movies—one that left her feeling incredibly lucky.
