Lee Man-gi took to the waters off Jindo to try mullet fishing and then indulged in the season’s freshest sashimi.
On the 9th, KBS 1TV’s A Walk Around the Neighborhood spotlighted Jindo’s seasonal sashimi star, the barley mullet.
Lee climbed aboard a Jindo fishing boat for a hands-on mullet-catching experience. The captain turned the day’s catch — barley mullet — into generous sashimi slices. The spread also featured sea bass and sea bream; Lee tried the sea bass first. After wrapping a slice in lettuce and a perilla leaf, he asked, “How can it be this chewy?” The captain replied, “Fish from muddier areas tend to taste better.”
He said he loved not only the sashimi but even the kimchi, calling it delicious. In the cozy atmosphere, the captain and his wife shared the story of how they first met. The couple, parents of several children, noted that holidays pull the whole family together and insisted, “There’s no getaway like Jindo.”
